General Information
Amorphous are failed attempts at conjuring magic. Although they are small and otherwise harmless, they do have an incredible ability- to consume and transfer any matter they eat into their own and take upon the abilities it has. They are a common pet kept by beginners, and many attempt to rid themselves of them by dumping them back into the pitch they come from. It is an easy fix, although it is frowned upon.
An amorphous, especially when annoyed, has a sense for what papers can't be easily replaced. In addition to using an amorphous as an excuse for late homework, some students will also try to send it to their teacher's office to eat important exams. This rarely works, as an amorphous is hard to train and most teachers have their offices warded against amorphous attacks. Getting them to eat crucial parts of important papers is slightly easier, but claiming that the amorphous ate one's homework is no longer an acceptable excuse in most classes (unless the homework assignment involved food or socks).

This egg smells incredibly bad.
Amorphous eggs smell almost as bad as (if not worse than) rot eggs, with the smell having been described as "rotting eggs cooked in sewage," "a skunk wearing dirty socks," and "like a rot's favorite perfume." The smell will cling to hands and clothing no matter how much soap is used afterward, so one should wear gloves and old clothing before trying to tend to an amorphous egg.

This blobby hatcling is incredibly goopy. It tends to consume objects by surrounding them, and is prone to consuming and then converting their mass to themselves. It is otherwise useless, though.
Amorphous hatchlings smell slightly more pleasant than their eggs did (or perhaps it's just a case of getting used to the smell), but are still difficult to be around. An amorphous hatchling will try to eat anything it can fit around, including its mage's fingers. Luckily, the absorption process is slow enough that it's easy to free one's finger before any permanent damage is done. Every amorphous has its own particular preferences, but socks are a popular snack. Until large enough to take on a fixed shape, an amorphous hatchling can squeeze itself through a keyhole, making it a challenge to safeguard one's belongings. Locking spells are no help, as they can dismantle them through sheer persistence.

It has grown now and has taken a definite form, which prevents it from actively consuming your precious items.
Once an amorphous hatchling gets old enough to take on a defined shape, it shifts its attention from its mage's belongings to other food sources. An amorphous doesn’t need to eat, but still seems to find pleasure in eating. The blue variety likes to sample plants, but no amount of training can teach it to distinguish weeds from flowers or vegetables. Hatchlings that eat too much of a single type of plant will become living examples of "you are what you eat." Usually, this involves minor changes in color or texture, but sometimes hatchlings will sprout flowers realistic enough to attract bees. Mages with pollen allergies should keep plants they're allergic to away from their hatchling.
Adult Information

Your hatchling has grown now and despite being small it can be incredibly annoying to deal with. Its gooey substance properties allow for it to leave an icky trail wherever it decides to go, and it often eats pages out of your books. It seems to bear no magical properties, though it is unnerving to be around as it seems to almost draw in magic.
A grown amorphous should be kept well away from arcane dragons, who will try to curse it back to the pitch from which it came. It should also be kept away from reactor stones and anything else that stores magic. A blue amorphous will often imprint on a charger and follow it around like a duckling. The charger may be bemused, pleased, or annoyed, depending on the breed. A blue amorphous is far too small to be ridden by a human, but is a favorite steed for toads.
