The Chocolate Sugar Glider

General Information

Sugar Gliders are a strange and curious breed, able to hop from tree to tree and grasp onto branches with their extraordinarily long claws. Their main diet is fruit, and their long and nimble paws allow them to grab the fruit with ease, and quickly pick apart the ripe flesh. They prefer mangoes over most other fruit, and often an adult will wander away into the forest for months on end and return engorged and covered in the juice of them. They are extrememly energetic, and said to be able to go a month without sleeping. They do not exist in the wild at all, instead they were created when a mage combined a sugary pastry with a garnet dragon, causing this new breed to arise. They seem to breed normally in captivity, though, making this seem unlikely.

Sugar gliders are one of the few species confirmed to be created by magic at the castle, and confirmed safe. These draconian morphs are said to be the result of taking a cupcake and turning it into a dragon, though no one is entirely sure if that is what happened- but with their sweet tooth and smell, it is not unbelievable.

Sugar glider eggs are covered in a sweet, sticky substance that is a residue left over from their "magic" origins. These eggs, unlike other species, are created by pure magic, and are unknown to any mages but Morado. His shifty ties to the creator of these eggs often worries mages who try to remain allied with good, but we can assure he is getting them from the castle and not other sources.

Baby Information

The hatchling that came out of the egg still retains its sweet smell, and it often runs around in search of food. You have offered it meat but it refuses, instead tearing into your bag to get at whatever fruit you may have. It often is chased by your other hatchlings due to their curiosity of its odd smell.

Sugar gliders only vary in color and not attitude when hatched from their eggs. These hatchlings thoroughly enjoy consuming sweet objects, and will spend hours searching just to get a taste. These young creatures are not unknown to climb orchard trees and consume ripening peaches right off the tree, and mages who bring their hatchling to the orchard are met with shun and it is not unheard of for them to be shooed away by others who would like to preserve their crop.

Teen Information

Your hatchling has grown and it has become more energetic, running from place to place with no real motives. It often will steal things from your other hatchlings, and if you have any fruit it will steal it as well, even if it is not hungry. It has been stockpiling the food in a corner of the room, and you frequently have to remove it or else a bad stench emanates from the area.

At this stage, sugar gliders have become not only eaters of fruit but also hoarders, taking up the age old habit of collecting a hoard for their own use and to woo a mate. Hatchlings at this stage do not realize that their fruit will "mature" unless constantly cycled out, so it is not uncommon to see these hatchlings sitting on piles of rotted, smelly fruit, looking with hope at a potential partner- who only sees a disgusting glob of organic material. As these hatchlings grow, they thankfully begin to realize hygiene is a valuable trait.

Adult Information

Your dragon is now a full grown adult, and its long neck and claws allow it to climb fruit trees and pick apart the fruit. Often you can see it heading off towards the jungle, a place where there is ample amounts of fruit to eat. Your adult has never considered travelling towards the castle's grove, and for good reason, since they use nets and other devices there to catch sugar gliders and fine their owners for whatever damage they have done. You adult is one of the most energetic creatures you have seen, often running from place to place and not taking a break for days. Eventually, though, when it tires it enters a very deep sleep, and nothing can wake it out of its slumber.

Adult sugar gilders, if raised properly, will not see the castle orchards as a valuable source of material for their collections. A responsible mage will lead their adult glider to the jungle, and show them the variety of the food and make sure that they understand which materials are dangerous and which will woo. The jungle and its constantly changing and morphing flora allows for the sugar glider species to not run out of variety and supplies, which ensures that once showed this area they will value it more than the grove. Still, mages will often forgo this valuable trek and prefer to pay the fines to the damages that their glider accrued rather than risk their own to make the trek. Some mages have even taught their adult sugar gliders to teach their hatchlings this travel. The deep sleep that sugar gliders endure, sadly, has not been explained yet, although it may be tied to its life origins, as many other life species also endure this deep slumber.
